1.Born in 630 BCE2.Defeats Necho at Carchemish in 605 BCE -Necho was an Egyptian pharaoh who was in power at the same time as Nebuchadnezzar. Necho gained a victory over the Assyrians at Carchemish. This gave Egypt the possession ofthe Syrian provinces of Assyria, including Palestine. Nabopolassar, Nebuchadnezzar’s father, wanted to re-conquer from Necho the western provinces of Syria, and for this purpose he sent his son with a powerful army westward. The Egyptians met him at Carchemish, where a furious battle was fought, resulting in the Egyptians retreat and Babylon once again ruled Syria and Phoenicia. 3.Father dies 4.Necho defeats Nebuchadnezzar in a battle, 601 BCE 5.Crushes First Judaean revolt in 597 BCE -During Nebuchadnezzar's reign as king, he had control of Jerusalem. He ruled like a tyrant over the Jews and after his loss to Necho in battle the Jews saw that he could be defeated and four years later led a revolt which was quikly put down by Nebuchadnezzar. This was the first of the Judaean revolts. 6.Second Judaean revolt from 588-587 BCE 7.Destroys Jerusalem in 586 BCE -During Nebuchadnezzar’s third invasion, he successfully destroys Jerusalem and the temple. Which leads up to the Exile of the Jews to Babylon. 8.Dies in 562 BCE |
